Faces of Asia

In 2015 I travelled through South-East Asia for 7 months. The starting point for my photo series Faces of Asia was the question: “Is it better to be poor or rich to be happy?” The people I met while travelling in Asia didn’t seem to need much to be happy. There is a remarkable difference between the Western and the Eastern world. Obviously poverty doesn’t make anyone happy, but neither does capitalism. Finding the balance between having little and being happy is an attitude towards life that inspires me.

About me

My mother is yellow, my father is white and I am something in between. Belgian endive rolls in cheese sauce or wantan soup with stuffed dumplings, soy sauce and sesame oil? Don’t ask me to choose. I’m a banana, yellow on the outside, white on the inside.
