Dorjee

On St Jan’s Square I enter Snow Wok. This time I’m not here for a yummy curry, but to take Tenzin’s picture. It’s his wife Dorjee who welcomes me: “Both my grandmother and my mother are from Tibet, but I am born in India. In 1959 my mother fled to Dharamshala. I wasn’t in her belly yet, so I don’t know anything about it.” A mountainous city also known as Little Lhasa, Dharamshala is located in the Indian province of Himachal Pradesh. It’s the home town of the Dalai Lama, a Tibetan exile himself.

About me

My mother is yellow, my father is white and I am something in between. Belgian endive rolls in cheese sauce or wantan soup with stuffed dumplings, soy sauce and sesame oil? Don’t ask me to choose. I’m a banana, yellow on the outside, white on the inside.
